Swansea Bay GC is located at the gateway of Swansea city and is one of the oldest courses in Wales. The course layout is something quite unique as it boasts both links and parkland style holes. It begins gently with a number of parkland holes after which the course is bisected by the A483 while the Port Talbot bypass bridge imposes itself for a couple of holes, but this doesn’t detract from the experience.
When you go under the bridge and reach the other side you are greeted by a tight par 3, which then leads on to a number of link style holes, which it has to be said, are absolutely fantastic. These holes (7th-12th) offer a real taste of true links golf and will test the skill levels of all golfers (Pro or hack) with blind tee shots and two-tiered greens.
After the strong par three 13th hole you cross over again under the bridge where you are greeted by trees and greenery once more. The parkland holes offer realistic birdie chances coming home so there is a chance to finish in style and if you can hang on in there during the links stretch in the middle of the round then you might just be on for a good score!
All in all Swansea Bay GC offers golfers an interesting and varied round of golf with its mixture of links & parkland holes, which not too many courses can offer. The greens are pure of roll and the general condition of the course is superb especially during the summer months. Why not test out your skills out on this wonderfully unique course?
