The Rolls of Monmouth Golf Club - Course Review

The Rolls of Monmouth GC is a pristine championship parkland course set in idyllic countryside with views a plenty.

This immaculate par 72 course measures 6,733 off the back tees and tree-lined fairways make hitting the short stuff imperative. A wonderful mixture of long par 4’s, risk/reward par 4's, reachable par 5’s and cleverly designed par 3’s make The Rolls one of the most enjoyable courses to play anywhere in Wales and has to be one of the finest parkland courses in the country without question.

The “signature” hole has to be the 18th and what a hole it is! This formidable par 3 plays well over 200 yards off the white pegs and often plays into the wind. Your eye is immediately drawn to the mansion house in the background, which adds some theatre to what is a wonderfully designed hole. After you’ve taken in the view you are quickly aware of the water short and the large bunker right, which are both ready to gobble up any miss-hit or wayward shots. The green presents a further examination with its undulating surface that has a multitude of subtle breaks, all of which makes for a potential card wrecking hole.

Many a round has been undone at this testing par 3. If you manage to hit the green in regulation with your long iron or fairway wood you will be more than pleased to 2 putt your way to par and walk off the final green with a big smile on your face! Surely one of the most striking and challenging finishing holes not only in Wales, but anywhere in the UK for that matter. A real stunner of a golf hole!

The Rolls is a real hidden gem of a course that should be on everyone’s bucket-list of tracks to play in Wales. Why not try this parkland beauty for yourself?
